BIO

I like to mix the extremes when making a new piece. I combine boyish beauty, lace and fur, while my satin skirts hang over big black boots. I like the idea of being comfortable and edgy, sticking out while still fitting in. I have always remained the same with my style by mixing feminine and masculine. My men’s line holds the same rules of gender bending. I have acquired my taste and style through the way I live my life. Being practical and unique is important to me. I grew up on military bases moving frequently. I owe most of my creative influence to my experience in the orient while my father was stationed in Okinawa, Japan in my teens. I found my independence there as well. It was safe to travel and get lost in the alleys, which were filled with eye candy. I started designing clothes out of thrift store finds as a hobby when I was 15. I eventually started to sell my clothes in second hand stores, were I resided in Washington DC. I stopped and did what I was supposed to, went to get a college education and then continued to teach for five years. I was exhausted and felt empty and decided to
make some changes.

I was captivated and inspired by a group called Clan Destino whom performed and where very much involved in burner community. I once again began sewing in order to make costumes for performers and friends. When I first started designing clothes I did not have much money for materials, so I used recycled clothes. I still try and use recycled clothing as much as possible. I take a long time to make my clothes because they are all one of a kind and I do not follow a pattern. I want the material and mistakes to decide where the vest, skirt, or pants want to go. I am blessed to have support and positive affirmation from my community, which I am so grateful for.
