Michele Bass began her artistic endeavors at a very early age. At age 5, she was dancing with the Los Angeles Ballet Co. in the city’s most renowned theatres. As a result of having a grandfather who was a well established pianist and teacher in France, she was greatly influenced by classical music. This foundation expanded into exploring every genre of music as she grew. All through her formative years, Michele studied many different methods of dance, as well as pottery, painting and sculpture.
At age 22, Michele moved to San Francisco to attend the Academy of Arts College, majoring in photography, but before too long she realized that her true passion resided in music. Over the years, she learned different aspects of electronic music, from djaying to making music on keyboards and drum machines. She also bought her first sewing machine and began to create clothing, house wares and costume type pieces. During these years she traveled extensively and found her "tribe" of like minded artists that had the same visions and goals with art, beauty, love and life in Northern California.
Michele recorded her first compilation of music, entitled "The Shadowplay" In 1997, at the time she was signed to La Casa Records for her first release. Los Angeles director Youree Henly filmed a music video for the album track "The Undreamt Dream" that aired on MTV's AMP and was later featured in the DUMBO ARTS FILM FESTIVAL in NYC in 1998. She then produced sounds for 2 independent movies and a few MTV plugs. At this time, she co-founded the Mystic Family Circus with about 30 other friends from all different mediums of expressive art forms.
In 2001 Michele returned to Los Angeles, pursuing her DJ career that spanned up and down the coasts of Cali and clear across the globe to Hong Kong and China. Michele also established her own events production company called Mystik Alchemy, fusing many of the underground artist collectives in Los Angeles together for special events and parties, which also created a platform to help further many of these artists into other opportunities in the entertainment industry. During this period Michele also assumed ownership of a record shop in Santa Monica called “SoulSonic”, which catered to DJ’s and electronic music producers.
Michele closed SoulSonic’s doors in 2006 to focus on other worldly endeavors. She works in artist relations now for a non-profit organization called “NextAid”, which is born from the electronic dance community and is building an eco-sustainable residential village for children in South Africa who have been orphaned due to the AIDS pandemic. Michele’s greatest passion in life right now is integrating art as a contribution to enlightenment and healing to the world through direct action. As she dedicates her heart to this, Michele continues to pursue music, art, photography, painting, clothing design, and is presently working on a book of poetry and art.
