:: Trang Chau :: January 2004 Diva of the Month ::

Congratulations to Trang Chau of Los Angeles, CA, our "Diva of the Month" for January 2004! Read Trang's interview!

Using the different media of sculpture, painting, photography, fashion, video, and performance, she investigates the feminine body under rupture, power, and anxiety. See Trang's gallery here.

Trang is currently anticipating a grant from the Caucus Foundation to complete her first short film that she has co-written and will co-direct with a fellow colleague NYC filmmaker. The film production is already in progress and is scheduled to shoot in March of 2004.

She is also a co-owner of her own clothing line called “We are Lucid Dreaming.” The clothing line at the moment is a cut-to-order Couture line that caters to a private distributor. However, she is currently working towards launching this line to be debuted in stores in Los Angeles, New York City, Tokyo, and London for Spring 2004.

Websites for her work and her clothing line is currently under construction but will be viewable in early 2004.

Greetings, and Happy New Year! As United Divas moves past infancy, just a little over a year old, we would like to thank everyone who has helped us grow into the diverse creative organization we have become today. Looking back at 2003, we see a solid display of new artists added to our group, making us 17 artists strong as we begin to plan for 2004. We now have about 1400 members through the website, and we managed to throw a successful 1 year anniversary event back in October 2003.

We have a lot planned for 2004! We have plans to enhance the expansion of United Divas that we would like to share with you...

  • United Divas has entered the beginning stages of becoming a non-profit organization! As we mature, we will need all the reinforcements that we can get. Send us your support, refer a diva, connect a soponcer, keep connected. Get involved!
  • We will be adding a forum to the United Divas website where you can discuss various topics moderated by the United Divas members.
  • We will be adding "Blog" pages to the diva galleries that each diva can use as a diary or a place to update you on happenings in their lives.
  • We will be creating a photo gallery section where you can see photos from past United Divas events, as well as events from our United Divas affiliates.
  • Also in 2004, we will continue to bring you a talented new artist each month, as well as our event listings and recommendations, as always! If you have ideas for what you would like to see from United Divas in the future, please feel free to email us at: referrals@uniteddivas.com

The 2004 Women's Festival of the Arts is held in honor of California's women artists. It takes place in March in recognition of International Women's Day and National Women's History Month. The festival celebrates California's diversity and includes a visual arts exhibition and nonstop entertainment by female musicians, dancers, authors, spoken word artists and indy filmmakers. We are fortunate to hold this year's event at the historic Ebell Club.

The Ebell Club, an all women's organization, was established in Long Beach in 1896. Their original mission was described as a united effort toward the highest development of humanity, philanthropic activities, wider horizons for women everywhere and opportunities for their higher education with emphasis on the arts and sciences.

:: Quote of the Month ::

"I learned...that inspiration does not come like a bolt, nor is it kinetic, energetic striving, but it comes into us slowly and quietly and all the time, though we must regularly and every day give it a little chance to start flowing, prime it with a little solitude and idleness."
-- Brenda Ueland
