:: Michele Bass :: March 2004 Diva of the Month ::

Congratulations to Michele Bass, of Los Angeles, our "Diva of the Month" for March 2004! Check out her bio to learn more about her endeavors as the founder of Mystik Alchemy, and the producer of several multimedia events in Los Angeles.
As a dj, performer, promoter and supporter of quality productions she has been involved with the undergound music scene for over ten years. She also is a co-founder of San Francisco's Mystic Family Circus. Miss Bass has also produced scores for 2 independant movies, several MTV2 commercials, and a music video that circulated on MTV's AMP show in 1999 from her own 5 track album she produced called The Shadowplay. Michele just bought a record store on Main Street in Santa Monica and is calling it "SoulSonic." She is also co-producing a new Thursday weekly called "Tara" that kicks off this week, which features DJ's and artists of ethnic inspired electronic music and rare groove. Read Michele's interview to get the her view on djing, as well as producing music, events, and how she continues to evolve Mystik Alchemy into a full multimedia events production company that has been commissioned by both Cirque Du Soliel' and the L.A. Weekly.

Trang Chou
Champagne Catwalk
@ El Cid, 4212 Sunset Blvd., Silverlake

Her clothing line, " We Are Lucid Dreaming, " will be closing this event on the last saturday( April 17). Some of LA's funkiest emerging designers show their Fall 2004 collections to Saturday brunchers in a campy restaurant. LA.com sponsors the series to give independent designers a platform (and so we can drink mimosas on the clock).
The Champagne Catwalk brings a series of four fashion events to the historic El Cid restaurant, and you don't need to be a card-carrying fashionista to attend. The shows are free entertainment for brunch customers.

Please go to www.la.com .... Go under search and type in the word Champagne for more info and the press release.

includes a sit-down champagne brunch

Crossing History/Crossing Cultures:
Paintings and Drawings

464 N. Robertson Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90048
310-657-9843
http://www.koplindelrio.com/lin/lin.html

Koplin Del Rio Gallery is pleased to announce our first exhibition of paintings and drawings by Zhi Lin. His monumental paintings, each 12 x 7 ft, and small studies are the result of more than a decade of work on the project, Five Capital Executions in China. The five large paintings, Starvation, Flaying, Firing Squad, Decapitation, and Drawing and Quartering, are profoundly significant as portrayals of history and cultural critique. Zhi Lin’s experience in the Cultural Revolution as a child, and the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989 as an art student in London, shaped his art. The epic scroll-like paintings in this series, when examined closely, reveal intense visual statements against violence and cruelty.

:: Quote of the Month ::

"It is easier to talk about money -- and much easier to talk about sex -- than it is to talk about power. People who have it deny it; people who want it do not want to appear to hunger for it; and people who engage in its machinations do so secretly." --Rosabeth Moss Kanter
