1 Year Anniversary Fundraiser :: Saturday Oct. 10, 2003 :: |
 |
United Divas would like to invite you to attend our
belated 1 Year Anniversary Fundraiser - a special
annual event, showcasing many of our artists from
the past year. We will be displaying several video
art pieces, paintings, photography, and even small
works on paper. There will also be plenty of atmospheric
acoustics to tantalize your ears, with a diverse range
of electronic music shared by our line-up of disc
jockey divas. And, there are giveaways for the early
birds...
Funds
raised at the event help us pay for webhosting, the
service we subscribe to manage our email list, government
bureaucracies, stickers, fliers for our events, office
supplies, gas for studio visits for potential divas,
cover charges for events where we scout for divas,
postage, office supplies, business cards, and upcoming
expenses for 2004. We don't make any money for the
services we provide, but we hope to cover expenses
that we have incurred thus far, and to put any amount
beyond that towards investments and expenses for the
future of United Divas.
If
you would like to donate a mixed CD, product, or artwork
for our raffle giveaway, please email Jan with a description
of what you would like to donate.

Koplin Del
Rio Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings
by David Ligare. This marks the twentieth anniversary of his first
independent exhibition at Koplin Gallery in 1983 where he has
had seven solo shows. For
this exhibition the artist utilizes the strict horizontal geometry
of sea and sky illuminated by his familiar late afternoon sunlight
to present minimal seascapes that are a delicate balance between
order and chaos. In the 1970’s Ligare produced a series
of paintings depicting a single piece of white drapery thrown
above the sea. In this exhibition, several of the seascapes, titled
Equivalents utilize clouds, which allude to those earlier works.
In the focal painting of the exhibition, a diver also seems suspended
in mid-air like the earlier thrown draperies. The figure of the
young man and the photographic quality of light are modern, but
the subject has its precedence in Ancient Greek art.
David Ligare
grew up in Los Angeles and studied at Art Center College of Design.
In addition to the solo exhibitions, the artist’s work has
been included in many group exhibitions around the world. His
paintings are in numerous public and private collections including
the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Wadsworth Atheneum Museum
of Art, Hartford; Gabinetto
