How the scholarship started
Jan Tompkins launched the creative scholarship fund in 2008 to help students who have a financial disadvantage have the ability to continue their arts education. When Jan was a student, most forms of aid she qualified for did not consider special circumstances. Every year she found herself having to ask for additional financial assistance, due to family hardships, despite being one of the top students in her program. The scholarship is part of our ongoing commitment to further Jan’s vision by encouraging women to excel in creative fields and become active role models and leaders.
As soon as Jan was able to manage her own student loans and living expenses, with income to spare, she made a $500 donation to create the first scholarship award. Her parents Shari & Jack Ramsey matched her initial donation, making the award amount for the first annual creative scholarship up to $1000.
Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of the candidates’ portfolio, demonstrated leadership and financial need.

Danielle Fuentes added these pithy words on Oct 22 08 at 8:13 amI think that this is a great thing to do for “divas” who do not have the same opportunities as a lot of other girls. I am a high school student who is desperately seeking help for my college funds. This is the type of thing that people look at and say oh wow maybe you should not give up this fast and maybe there is hope for all of us to get a better education.
