although my collegiate studies began as an mlk scholar/ women’s varsity basketball player at new york university in 2000, i transferred to borough of manhattan community college in 2001. at bmcc, i was the 2002 alex morrisey award for excellence in journalism recipient, a women's varsity basketball player/starter, 2002 region XVI all-tournament team award winner, and, finally, a 2002 writing & literature graduate with honors (3.8 gpa).
i then became an athletic and academic scholarship recipient in the albert dorman honors college at new jersey institute of technology later in 2002. i graduated magna cum laude in 2005 with a b.a. in history and drama/theater minor. as an undergraduate, i had even begun an m.s. in professional and technical communication before deciding to pursue a career in entertainment full time.
in addition to the aforementioned academic achievements, i managed a career as a spoken word poet. honing my craft since the days of nyu has landed me numerous performances at colleges and concerts as well as an opportunity on the coca-cola/showtime at the apollo national tour. in 2005, i was the grand prize winner of the n.a.r.a.l. national "choice jams" competition and a 1st place recipient of the national service industry advertising award (www.siaa.com) for writing, performing and co-producing mercy college's "go" radio campaign. i also recorded my first album entitled “sharae` nikai live” and produced/performed in a live variety show entitled “don’t be alarmed; we’re just talented!”, both under my company, bak uda bus entertainment.
although i am a jersey city, nj native, i currently reside in los angeles, ca. i continue to pursue a career in entertainment as a spoken word poet and actress. my recent achievements as an actress include a feature on upn’s “all of us” and a few episodes as a main character on wilmer valderrama’s new mtv series entitled “yo momma!” (which began airing the first week of april 2006). i also recently demonstrated my poetic talent and opinions on the culture of spoken word in a new series entitled “b-side” on the starz in black network. lastly, i am currently in production for an episode of the “the tyra banks show” where I also get the opportunity to perform my poetry. air dates for the latter shows are tba.
