This was one 2005 N.A.R.A.L. National Choice Jams submission. The competition’s purpose was to promote freedom of choice. Like its title, Hip Hop Won't Stop!, the entire poem was written in two-one syllable word couplets. It contends that the constant air play of similar themes and messages in new school hip hop has put a scar on our, particularly women and young people's, right to choose.

Hip-hop
won’t stop!
Why not?
JACKPOT!
Oh, wow.
So now,
we die,
or cry,
“Hip hop
won’t stop!”
Can’t see,
so we
buy it’s
bull shit!
Good stuff ?
to tough
to sell.
“Oh, well!”
They say,
this day:
blow jobs,
black mobs,
drive bys,
take lives?
big chains,
new Range?
smack hoes,
jail pose,
lame hooks,
life crooks?
no class,
show ass!
sell crack,
lean back,
big dicks?
two chicks,
no fags?
blue flags,
crypt set,
Dip Set,
“yeah, Yeah
YEAH, YEAH!”
pink kicks,
pink whips,
pink Lex.
What next?
Pink blouse?
Pink house?
But, that
pink crap
doooooes sell!
So they’ll
sign them ---
“Al  bimb
in stores!”
Like whores,
we buy
the lies,
but can’t
pay rent,
car note ---
just so
hip hop
won’t stop?
Air waves
do shave
our sight,
our right
to choose
which tunes
we hear.
Oh, dear!
same rhymes
ten times
a day
No way!
One voice ---
THAT’S CHOICE?
Hell No!
Worse though,
it seems
we deem
New School
Rap cool
to stain
our brain,
our youth,
our truth
our voice
OUR CHOICE!
You ask
what has
this to
quite do
with damn
CHOICE JAMS.
Well, ma’am,
R. Kell
doooooes sell!
Set free,
was HE
broke laws
on tape.
That’s rape!
Hung world,
Young girl…
She lost
high costs:
her rep,
her step,
her time,
her mind,
Her health,
Her self,
Her voice,
HER CHOICE,
Her hope.
That dope
still sings
‘bout things
that built
his guilt
all ‘cause
the laws
were bent
For HIM.
That’s why
I cry,
“Hip hop
won’t stop
rap cats
so that
‘NO!’ means
‘NO TEENS!’,
‘NO!’ means
‘NO things
that take
or make
girl’s rights,
girl’s plights,
girl’s voice,
GIRL’S CHOICE,
girl’s pain!’
What shame
The truth
has proved
some chicks
are tricks.
But’s time
we rhyme
‘bout those
non hoes
and hear
it air
all day
‘til they
are sick
of it
like us.
We must
hear more
than “Whores
ain’t shit!”
or it
will kill.
Ask Bill.
We need
not bleed,
just fight
for rights,
RIGHT NOW!
That’s how.
It’s late.
Can’t wait!
My fear
is clear
(sounds crazed):
“Like AIDS,
full blown
left ‘lone,
hip hop
won’t stop.”

There is no choice if there is one voice.
