BIO
Susan
Joseph was born in New London, Connecticut in 1952 and was
raised in Everett, Washington. She did her undergraduate
work at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington
receiving her B.F.A. in Painting and Sculpture with a minor
in Art History in 1984. In 1984 she moved to Claremont,
California to attend graduate school and received her M.F.A.
in installation sculpture in 1986 from Claremont Graduate
University. In addition she has done extensive course work
in Women’s Studies in Religion at the Claremont Graduate
University. In 1993 Susan developed an interest in the internet
and time arts initiating her current study in interactive
computer arts and digitally developed video and animation.
In 2000 Susan began a web site, perfectbitch.net,
in support of women artists and writers.
Susan
Joseph has exhibited, lectured and participated in panel
discussions extensively in the Southern California region.
She is currently teaching introductory classes in multimedia
and 3-D animation at Long Beach City College and has taught
painting, sculpture, installation sculpture and critical
theory at Claremont Graduate University and at the Chino
Youth Authority through the University of La Verne.
Susan has been
living and working in a studio in down town Los Angeles
since 1999. She is married, has a 24 year old daughter and
2 parrots, Kenny, an African Grey and Tilla, an African
Senegal.
