BIO
The impaling of the skin, the mutation of the body, and
the oozing of the wet and the slime, are visceral elements
that Trang is attracted to and investigates in her work.
Using the different media of sculpture, painting, photography,
fashion, video, and performance, she investigates the feminine
body under rupture, power, and anxiety.
Trang is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles. Her
background covers a variety of interests and experience
including the study of Italian horror film, historical costume,
and 19th century Gothic literature. In addition, she studied
Classical Piano for 10 years at the Katherine Phi School
of Music in Illinois, English and Philosophy for 2 years
at the University of CA, Irvine, and finally Fashion at
Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles before changing
to the study of Fine Arts where she graduated in 2002 from
Otis with a BFA in Sculpture and New Genres.
Her work blurs the line between Fashion and Fine Arts by
combining a hybrid that uses the body as a prosthetic means
to bringing forth in the viewer the dichotomies of fear
and curiosity, repulsion and attraction, and sex and death.
Trang’s sculptures, paintings, and performances/fashion
shows have been exhibited primarily in Los Angeles. She
has also contributed her work to film through production
design and writing.
Trang is currently anticipating a grant from the Caucus
Foundation to complete her first short film that she has
co-written and will co-direct with a fellow collegue NYC
filmmaker. The film production is already in progress and
is scheduled to shoot in March of 2004.
She is also a co-owner of her own clothing line called “We
are Lucid Dreaming.” The clothing line at the
moment is a cut-to-order Couture line that caters to a private
distributor. However, she is currently working towards launching
this line to be debuted in stores in Los Angeles, New York
City, Tokyo, and London for Spring 2004.
Websites for her work and her clothing line is currently
under construction but will be viewable in early 2004.
